I’ll try anything twice

There was this one time when I almost died. I remember laying in the fetal position on a hotel bed in atlanta, praying for death to come. In a matter of 48 hours I lost 10 pounds of fluid and was unable to hold down any sort of food. On the third day of this grueling experience, I was finally able to hold liquid down, and I began eating solid food again. This experience came about after a trip I took to Guatemala. I spent 8 days in Guatemala. I worked with a Christian, non-profit organization called Clubhouse Guatemala. In their training and on boarding packets I read about the dangers of eating any sort of Guatemalan cuisine. Anything outside of what was sanctioned by the organization was strongly discouraged. I followed this pamphlet to a T. I avoided all street food, no mater how delicious they looked or smelled. I avoided any sort of water contact. I washed my hands religiously, and frequently applied hand sanitizer. All that to say, in that moment, when I was praying for death because of the excruciating pain that I was experiencing, I thought back to everything that I did to avoid this agony. I realized it was all for not. Nothing I did had mattered because at the end of the day I still got sick. This is going to sound silly, but I thought back to all the food I had missed out on.
